It has been a long time since I wrote a blog so here it is.

I just returned home from visiting my parents, it has been hard to do since all the COVID-19 restrictions came into play. But for a while? Queensland is free to move about so we took the chance to get away and see family and go camping in our special bit of paradise.

The days on the river were mostly beautiful. There were a few days where it was overcast and cold as balls but hey its winter and you can’t always have 24 degrees (Celsius) days, it is winter after all. But regardless of the cold nights, it was just stunning.  One night it was so foggy that it was like it was raining on the tent. We woke up the next morning and it was like we were in Brigadoon, the fog over the river was just amazing and didn’t lift till well after 9 am that morning.

We spent our days on the river just enjoying the view, kayaking, and enjoying fires. Oh and having the cows come down to say hello. Two of them were very into eating our left-over bread. It is quite funny having a bull standing just out from under the tarp waiting for more bread to magically appear and then go sulk cause there isn’t any.

During the week we travelled to visit a couple of the award-winning distilleries in the area, Kalkie Moon was the first place to visit. Just a small distillery and brewery but it has made an impact at an international level with achieving several awards for their products. I am totally in love with the liqueurs. You might say we spent a little bit of money…  Locally owned and family run, it is awesome to see such great products. If you like Gin that is not only delicious but wont break the bank, then give Kalkie Moon a go.   https://kalkimoon.com/

The next stop was The Bundaberg Rum factory. Unfortunately tours were not going on thanks to Covid-19 but the shop was open and we are lucky that we didn’t go broke. The liqueurs are a delight and the rums well take your pick most of them have won awards. Oh and the fudge… get yourself a couple tins cause YUM!!!! I love it! http://www.bundabergrum.com.au/

The good thing is that if you would like to try them you can order them online.

So after seeing friends we decided to stay on the river bank so we didn’t go broke.

There were a couple funny moments while camping.

Garden Gnome forgot the bush dunny he built so we had to go find one to make do, well the one he got was not suitable, for starters the legs on it were short, the hole that he dug was big and it was like trying to pee without falling into the makeshift toilet… Which is what almost happened. I was drinking my morning cuppa and Garden Gnome when for his morning sabbatical and I hear a ‘SNAP’ and then “FUCK”. The toilet seat collapsed out from under him. Now, being the sympathetic wife I am, I called out and asked if he was alright. He was, he just got a bare arse full of dirt where he fell. Then I wasn’t so sympathetic cause I nearly choked on my cuppa and then laughed my arse off.

So that prompted a trip to Bunnings and we came up with a plan, we bought a chair and a toilet seat and cut it to fit and it worked a treat.

Well then, we had the kayak incident. Garden Gnome and I went for one last paddle up the river before packing them up to return home. We had a water fight, using the oars to splash each other, we were having fun even though the water was fucking freezing cold. It was the perfect afternoon. It was beautiful, the water was like glass. We finished our paddle and he got out of the kayak and pulled it on to the bank. I stood up in mine to get out and fucking fell in the water with my phone in my hand! I kept the phone out of the water though and didn’t get a drop on it. I though was not only dripping wet but covered in river mud so I had to wash myself off before I could get out of the icy water. Garden Gnome did have a good laugh at this.

After that bit of excitement, we went and found the cows to give them our left-over bread. We had the bull and his favourite girlfriend put their heads in both of their at the same time through my car door window to get the bread! We were laughing so hard, the big boofs were so insistent as we were trying to push them back out.

It has been amazing couple weeks away and it was good to earth myself out and get back to what is important. In exciting news, Not So Random, the second book to The Vegas Random is going to released on Amazon on the 13th of July, so the wait is over. I also re edited and added a couple more chapters to The Vegas Random, the second edition is live now on Amazon.

That’s all for now. I hope you are all safe and well.

Love and peace.

Ellie. xo
