I am Ellie Gerrard and my debut novel ‘The Vegas Random was released in 2018.

I am Aussie born and bred and true-blue Queenslander. I am wife and mother of a teen (aren’t they fun?). I have awesome family and friends for a support system (Hey guys, love you!) I have an awesome group of people helping me make it all possible. I have been a book nerd since I was ten thanks to Mrs Short. I fell in love with the BFG by Roald Dahl (still a favourite).
For most of my reading life I have read crime thrillers and loved them… Then one day I gave into EL James and had to find out what the hype was about with 50 Shades of Grey… And that was when my love for romance novels flourished.
I listen to music a lot when I am writing. I will put on music that suits what I am writing at the time.I try and let the book write itself. The characters to me feel real and I love bringing their different personalities and perspectives to life. It is fun for the character to get a surprise and for me to get a surprise too. And if you cry I can honestly say that I have as well. I think writing in first person gives a great insight into what the characters are really thinking.
This is a work of love for me.I wanted my book to be relatable, but I wanted it to have it moments where that just wouldn’t happen (it is fiction after all!), characters that everyone could fall in love with. I like to try things so that when I write them I understand what the character is doing, sights, smells, sounds. I think it is important from the readers perspective.
I got a kick in the butt to become a writer and if I am being completely honest, I started writing again because I needed to escape and it was my way of coping with life at the time.
Putting myself out for the world to see is scary but if you want to achieve your dreams you gotta get out of your comfort zone.
